Beating The Duel And Getting The Secret Duel
The duel can be tough if your level is to low, or if you don't have
the right equipment and materia. When entering the battles You should
be equipped with a Ribbon, KOTR linked with mp absorb, Mime, Double Cut, a few Counter Attacks,
HP plus, MP Plus, Ultima, any other summon you like, Barrier or shield and time. Another thing
you can do which is really helpful is go to the map and battle until you limit bar is almost full and then go into
the battle. You limit bar is always reset to the place where it was before the battle so you can
use your limit break eveytime you enter the battle. To
win at the duel, you must gain battle points (they disappear when you leave
Battle Square), which are given to you for winning battles. The amount of battle points you
earn differ each time based on your last handcap you select so go for something like
All Materia Breaks, or Green Materia Breaks. For all the others, go
for conditional handicaps if you have a Ribbon, Cure, Lucky 7, or Level 5
Down. These hadicaps have little or no effect on you. Just try to avoid
Accessory Breaks at all costs especially if you're using a Ribbon, and anything else
that is a big part of your gameplan.
I usually go in with the items listed above and have a pretty simple gameplan.
I use Wall or Sheild right away, and smack on haste. The first couple guys are
really easy so you should be able to do this without taking much damage. Cast
it again if an enemy casts Slow on you. If you have double cut mastered or atleast up to 4-cut
you can just repeatedly attack and you will take most enemies down. If you get some kind of handicap that would
prevent you from doing this, go with regular attacks, Limit Breaks, Ultima and Summons.
Once you have enough battle points to get Omnislash and W-Summon (see below),
and you have already received Ultima Weapon, you can access the Secret Duel!
Equip all three and go into Battle Arena, where you will be asked to
compete in a duel for only the best. This would be tough if you attempted to
fight like you did in the easy battles. You are up against such enemies as Behemoth,
Max Chimera, and Proud Clod BY YOURSELF! Not very easy... Unless you have Knights of the Round linked
with MP Absorb and Mime materia! Just cast KOTR on the first enemy and then keep Miming it (you may
want to cast barrier or shield and put on haste). You will continually regain MPs so you never have
to worry about running out. This will kill all enemies in one shot, except
for Proud Clod, he will take about 2. Your first win here
earns you Final Attack materia, while wins after that will give you Dio's
diaries, his autograph, and a Ribbon!
